Mark Hanham is an exciting young emerging artist tackling figurative painting through expressionism in the tradition of the action painters of 1950’s America.

"The imagery is what comes first for me and then I see what happens with the mark. It’s more exciting to paint when you don’t know what’s going to happen. Painting can startle you, can shock you, you can stumble across something."

Mark has had a number of solo exhibitions and has won the People’s Choice Award at the Kings Cross Competition in 2002 and 2003 and the Paddington Art Prize in 2004.
