After completing her Fine Arts education in Toronto, Canada in 1995, April travelled extensively before returning to work in graphic design, while painting on the side. She exhibited in Toronto with her paintings inspired by her travels. Another round of travelling led her to Australia where she now lives and works in Newtown.
Among her local exhibitions, she was in the Glebe Art Show and the Newtown Art Exhibition, where she was awarded the People’s Choice Prize in 2008. April was awarded the same prize in 2007 at Bent Art in Katoomba and was part of the Danks Street Art Feastival in October 2007.
“In my current series of oil paintings, I observe how birds occupy the world – in an existence which is both fragile and strong… not unlike humans. These are precarious lives as the world changes; and beautiful creatures looking around the world for a safe place to land…”
